On 8th October, Pembroke successfully delivered a second A320-200 to China Northwest Airlines on behalf of a third party owner. The first aircraft was delivered to the airline on 26 September 2002.

The contract, for two A320-200 aircraft on one-year leases, is Pembroke's first with an airline from PR China.

China Northwest Airlines, based in Xian, will eventually become part of a new merged entity involving China Eastern and Yunnan Airlines. This merger, expected to take up to two years to complete, is part of the ongoing government-backed consolidation of China's airline industry, with the ten state-controlled airlines to be merged into three groups lead by Beijing-based Air China, and Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines and Shanghai-based China Eastern.
